85 ranger 2.3 base ignition timing at 20 btdc at idle is this normal

i have a 85 ranger 2.3 and when i unplug the spout conector and set my base timing to 10 btdc then tighten the dizzy but when i plug the spout back in the timing jumps to 20 btdc i was wondering if that was normal for these engines but that sounds like alot of advance for idle

that sounds about right actually.....

i durasparked my 2.8 and i had to play with it for a few days before i got the timing right...
in the end it ran the best and got the best gas mileage about 18 btdc at idle

i would also double check it with a vacuum gauge if you have one.....the vacuum should be at its highest around 10-12 btdc
