91 mustang 2.3 into 87 ranger?

i think my 2.3L in my 87 ranger is about to die, and ive found a good deal on a 2.3 that came from a 91 Mustang, is this motor interchangeable, or if not can i make it work without to much trouble? Thanks!

I'm not 100% on this, but as far as I know the blocks are identical, and you shouldn't have too much trouble. The ignition and the heads are different.

I forgot which year they started, but later model 2.3's have the dual plug head and use coil packs. The earlier models use a single plug head and a distributor.

You should just need to swap the head and distributor onto the older 2.3. The newer 2.3's even though they use the coil pack igntions, still have the place to put the distributor in.

I'm going by what I learned on my 92 ranger.

Yep, well you're just going to be getting the engine right? If so, you'll be re-using your old computer and wiring harness. So I would basically just buy the new engine, and put your old head, distributor, sensors, etc. on it.
