95 Ranger wont start

O.K. guys here's what I've got. Stopped at a stop sign, and the motor just shuts off. It will turn over, but wont start. I dropped the fuel tank the fuel pump is priming and pumping gas to the fuel filter. I have gas goin through the filter. Here's what I've done so far. I changed the fuel filter, and the fuel pressure regulator. Still wont start. Sometimes it will act like it is gonna start, but wont! Any help you can give me would be great. Thanks

Any ideas?

cranking and turning over are the same thing. does your truck turn over but not fire?

tmeff429 02-21-2010 07:28 PM

yes it turns over but doesn't start

It would help if you provided a little more info on your truck such as what motor, tranny, etc.

Second, have you tested all fuses, both under hood and in cab? If not do so before proceeding.

If all fuses check good, have you checked for spark? If not do so now. You can do this by using an old spark plug that you know is still good. Remove one of the plug wires and connect it to that plug. Ensure you ground the metal threaded end by either placing the plug against some part of the motor. Or use a set of jumper cables using one end clamping the lower end of the plug and the other end to the motor block. Crank the motor while watching the plug to see if your getting any spark.

Sorry about that it is a 2.3 liter 5 speed transmission. I have checked all the fuses in the cab, and under the hood. They are good. I will check the spark plug to see if I'm getting fire as soon as the weather clears up here. Thanks for your help.

What is the best way to check the coil pack. I was told it could be that is what is keeping it from starting.

I'm still stumped. I pulled the plug wire, and checked for spark. I have a good strong spark. I don't really know what to try next. Any ideas?

Are you sure you have fuel pressure? Could be a plugged line somewhere before the fuel rail

tmeff429 05-07-2010 10:49 PM

Where do you check the pressure at the rail. I changed the fuel pressure regulator, and there was gas there. Not sure if that means anything.

I'm gonna spray some starter fluid in the Trottle Body and see if it tries to start. If it does try to start I guess it is a fuel issue right!
