is it best to buy a Ford fuel pump for reliability?
I have a 1995 Ford Ranger 4WD 2.3 engine standard cab long bed and I would like info on what is the best brand of fuel pump to buy for replacement... I hear people have had lots of problems with after market pumps going bad quickly so is the Genuine Ford Pump the best way to go or just a waste of money? Thanks...

Well if it was the original Ford Fuel Pump in your '95 then the 19 years speaks for itself.
My '94 is still working fine, knock on wood, lol.
I have read those stories as well, about 3rd party pumps failing, but there are not all that many of them, stories that is, so really up to you and your time spent replacing the fuel pump, what is your time worth if you have to do it again vs. the cost difference in 3rd party and Ford part

yes it is the original pump and you can hear it run yet... I'll pull the box back and pull the pump and see what it looks like, lots of salt here in Mn so it could be a rusted line that has a pin ***** of a hole but i smell no gas but it could be a rusted line inside the tank as well or it could just be old with 260,000 on it...
I've seen rusted lines on other trucks before so ya never know until you take a look... Just wanted to know if Motocraft was really worth the extra money and wondered if they are the same quality today as it was 19 years ago... Rockauto has a decent price on Motocraft but no sense over paying if a Carter is just as good...

finally got the fuel pump installed, being gone all week days doesn't help... the truck fired right up and runs fine... I ordered the fuel pump from Amazon $295 for Motocraft fuel pump, had it sent 2 day shipping by signing up for a free trial... It was supposed to get here on July 3rd but never made it so that is when the delays started... I let Amazon know of the situation, failure of delivery on 2 day shipping and they refunded my money completely... the pump arrived on the 7th... I imagine Fed Ex has paid for my fuel pump... so big delays but a free pump... :) Thank to all who answered for the help deciding on what was best... The Motocraft fuel pump was made by Walbro but no marking made in America like the stock pump had... :(
