'99 2.5L Alternator Issues
Hey guys I've got a major issue that's starting to get to me so hopefully somebody can help me!!
Truck snapped a timing belt about 2 months ago, didnt have time to get around to it for about a month so it sat. When I replaced that I went to drive it the 6 miles back to my house and only got about 4 before everything went dim and it died. Assumed it was the alternator so I took that and the battery and found out they were both done for.
In the process of getting a new alternator and battery I decided to pull the a/c pump off since it didnt work anyways.. so put everything back together with a non a/c belt.
Truck now kills alternators within 45 miles max. Thought maybe it was the non a/c setup so I put the pump and other belt back on and it still will not charge causing it to die. Continues to make alternators go bad on command and I just dont know whats goin on! to my knowledge everything is hooked up right and maybe i'm missing something?! i honestly dont know.. help me before i put her up for sale!!

I'm guessing 2 things, either the parts store is selling you the wrong alternator with too little amps or something in the engine is putting an enormous load on the electrical causing the alternator to surge all the time. Removing the AC pump and running a non AC belt system should have no effect on it at all. Before your alternator went out, was it making an annoying loud whiney sound?
Just another wild guess, but maybe you got a bad alternator/battery combo? -Mike-
