Another newbie needs help from the Ranger masters
Hey guys, my '98 Ford Ranger has sat for a bit longer than a year with no battery in it cause i needed to get the head fixed on it which i just did and now the truck wont start with a new battery in it heres my problems
-No fuel pump noise when you turn on the ignition -No spark -I bought a used pump which i bench tested, crawled under the truck unplugged the old pump and plugged in the new one and still no power to the pump, i checked all fuses and relays and all is good, checked the inertia switch as well and is good -when you turn on the ignition all dash lights work normally -i managed to put power to the pump from the relay but i still have a no start condtion cause of no spark PLEASE HELP!! Thank you kindly |
thats odd, did you check all of the big fuses under the hood?
|
Oh ya brotha i checked everything electrical
|
hrmm.. thats really strange.
no spark or fuel, i have no idea what would cause that. |
Would the fuel rail not having a groung have anything to do with it?

you have gone over everything that i would think to look at |
sounds odd but check the ground for the pump.. saw it happen on a s10 it snapped off the frame where it was mounted too...
|
check the ignition relay to be sure the computer is getting power. If that relay is bad it will get no spark and it will also not turn the fuel pump on because it controls the pump relay.

This sounds like a classic case of PATS problems to me.
When you turn the key to "Start" do other circuits shut down? Does your dome light and radio stay on? Can you hear any clicking from the starter? What does your THEFT light on the dashboard do when you turn the key to "On"??? If it flashes, then stays lit, you need to get the PATS system reprogrammed. |
sorry but thats wrong.
if the "pats" system dosen't see the proper key it will still let the engine run for 1-2 seconds then shuts everything down. |
I didn't think that a 98 had the PATS system?
|
your right brian.
my guess is that theres a gorund wire not hooked up or something was overlooked. |
