burning oil 1983

i have a 1983 motor in my 88 ranger 2.0 4 banger. its burning oil like crazy out of my oil came and when i go down the road i smother everyon in smoke i need help i dont know whats wrong....i didnt put too much oil in it.

This happen all of a sudden or did it get progressivly worse ?
What color is the smoke ?

thise happened all of a sudden...it did get worse the past couple of days though...and the smoke is white

im thinkin it happened when i was passing cars on the side of the road and there was a big bump for the side walk that i hit going pretty fast

General rule of thumb:

White smoke = water or antifeeze
Blue smoke = oil
Black smoke = fuel

Check the antifreeze level in the radiator , not the reservoir tank.I'm betting blown head gasket.

You can also check the oil fill cap to see if there is any antifreeze or water on it.
