I have a 2000 ranger xl 2.5l 2wd 5sp manual. About a week after purchase, it started severely leaking oil. Took off the oil pan to find that someone repaired a crack in the pan......
I cannot find a pan with the same part number. I found one that looks close, but it is special order and much more than most of other pans at $161. The cast number on the cracked aluminum pan I took off is f87E-6675 HB and B3-1 under all that. The engine cast number is F87E-6015-AB think this is a 1997 cast engine 2.5L, not sure if original to truck as truck is a 2000. I can't find engine Tag to match vin. Any idea where I can get an oil pan and what the replacement part # is?
Photos attached of pan.

Hi KS6420,
I too have a 2000 Ranger with the 2.5L, basically the same truck as yours judging by the info you posted.
As far as the oil pan part number is concerned, have you checked Rock Auto yet? More often than not they list the original manufacturer's part numbers for most parts, and any substitute part numbers when applicable. They're one of the best part number resources I've found so far.
Here's a link to the 2000, 2.5L section of Rock Auto: https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/....5l+l4,1362765
When I can't find a part number for a particular part, I call the local Ford Dealership parts department, tell them what I'm looking for and they always give me the right part numbers even if they can't get the part. Unfortunately many of the parts for these trucks have been discontinued by Ford.
When the part comes up as discontinued that's as far as the dealer will go, but many of the parts personnel will do a search for you and give you the info, if any, that they come up with. Of course this all depends on the dealership and the people working the parts department.
The ones I deal with( they're right next door to me) tend to be pretty laid back and always help me find the numbers, and any links to the part if they can't get it. Most of the time I wouldn't get the part or component from the dealer anyway due to the ridiculous markup. But they can be a good source of info. And sometimes they're just the only option.
That was the case for a new PCV valve and rubber grommet along with a vacuum booster check valve and rubber grommet. Those 4 little parts cost me $80, but I wanted OEM parts so I paid the price. The rubber grommets were more expensive than the valves. I can give you those part numbers if you need them.
Another option might be to have someone TIG weld your pan if it can be fixed. Since I don't see the pics you said you posted I can't tell if the pan is fixable or not.
I'll do some looking around and post here whatever I can come up with. I can also look in the Ford shop manuals I have, but they usually only list the main part number and normally don't include any prefix or suffix numbers. As an example; F87E-6015-AB would be listed as 6015 only. But I'll take a look anyway.
I found a thread on reddit that said the 2.3l and 2.5l pans are interchangeable. I found a 2.3l A Premium pan on Amazon that looks exactly same . ordered it and will see. If no, I will start searching salvage yards I guess.
photo attached of purchased pan.
Yea I couldn't find anything on Rock Auto, and Carparts.com only listed pans for 3.0L and 4.0L engines, even though I was in the 2.5L section.
I know a lot of the 2.3 is interchangable with the 2.5 but it depends on the years.
I hope this pan works out for you.
Let us know once you get it.
If all else fails you might want to check this out, or something like it:
I have no idea if it would work for your situation but a friend of mine has used something similar and it worked in his case. He only had a couple of pin holes in his oil pan so he didn't even have to remove it.
I considered trying a spray sealant, but the crack is pretty bad, I decided if I cant get a new one, or find one at a salvage yard, I will next try getting it welded. If it still leaks after that will try spray sealant to keep it going until I can get another pan somewhere. I am hoping the pan I ordered fits and problem solved....
Yea, hopefully the pan for the 2.3L engine works for you.
If not, I would suggest having it TIG welded. You can ask around your area or do a local search for a good Aluminum weldor. Just try to find someone who actually knows what they're doing. I've always said " There are weldors, and people who weld"
You might try to find a local bike shop, like a custom builder, or a custom car shop. They normally have at least one very good weldor on the payroll, or just helping out.
I wish you luck.
Late follow up - I found a place in Lake wales called chemical containers that welded my oil pan for $25. It is back on truck and not leaking, so far so good. Haven't been driving it around yet as still working on some other things while all is apart. Waiting now for injectors in mail to arrive. I did find an oil pan online, used, on ebay, guy wanted $$$$$. They are tough to find but not impossible if you are patient, and willing to spend big $ on an old truck. If you are going to find someone to try welding a pan, I reccomend super cleaning it before you take it to anyone for best results. I had mine so clean it almost looked new.
if anyone finds a source for refurbished or new aftermarket pans please post. Other pans will fit, but are not as deep so require changing pick up as well. They are also expensive before also adding the extra parts needed to retro-fit and make them work.

Reason: Correction
It's good to hear you got it fixed, and for a very reasonable price.
I was a weldor for 30 some years but didn't do a lot of TIG or Aluminum/Stainless, so when I bought a 69 Triumph Bonneville T120R back in 88 and realized the chain had gouged out the end weld on the oil tank before I bought it, I took it to a buddy of mine who worked at the local Harley Davidson dealer at the time. He welded it up for free and it never leaked again.
It's good to have friends that are proficient in other weld processes lol.
So did the new one for the 2.3L not work? Was it shallow like you mentioned?
Yeh, the 2.3l pan was too shallow. It would have worked if willing to spend more money and time replacing the pick up so it didn't bottom out in the pan. Also finally found a used pan online, but it was expensive. Hoping this weld does the job.
thanks for reply
