changed oil after 6 mos

new motorcraft filter ($3.48 at walmart) and 5 qts of valvoline 5w30

old oil (penzoil) went exactly 5k mi.and 6 mos. was dirtier than i've ever seen...
but...was down less than a qt. so i'm happy about that, and the engine is running well.

just because of the condition of the old oil i think i'm going back to 3 months change interval no matter what the mileage...

anyone else go 6 mos on dino oil ???? and what were the results.

I go way more than 5000 miles on a change. I don't even keep track. I just do it two or three times a year. And it comes out fine every time, just like my wallet.

I went nine months between my last change, though I didn't yet reach 3,000 miles either (I don't drive very much). Didn't have any problems, and I wasn't burning any either. I'll probably have it done again in May or June.

I use valvoline maxlife and I change it every 5,000 and the engine still runs fine.

I go like 8k on mine. I run syn and I hear that you can go like 10k on a single oil change.

Yall are funny... 5000 miles in 6 months, try 2 months. Thats why I run amsoil, 2 months and 5000 miles I change the filter and top off what I have lost. the oil is still golden at that point, no joke...

that's synthetic oil no? then it would be a different story. you put a fair amount of miles on quickly.
for me it wasn't a question of miles, rather the time.

how long does it take you to put on the 5000mi? our climate is kind of quirky here in MA.. 'if you wait 5 minutes. it'll change, lol'

If your not running synthetic you should really start. Its not that much more expensive in the long run because you are not changing oil as much and it really does help your engine.

I watched a TV show that featured a guy building a hot rod and he was using Royal Purpal. He gained a few extra HP. Granted we are not going to gain near that much but, I will get what I can take.

It takes about 4 months for me to get up to 5,000 miles. What part of MA are you from?

Ford canada says 5000km in the service manual. Thats 3106-7 miles.
I've always considered 5000km to be max. I know some folks who change the filter more often than the oil. I've had cars that I never changed the oil, just frequently added it.
On my motorbike I change it between 1000 and 2500km, depending on how hard I ride it. But it's clutch is in the oil and it spins around pretty fast in there.
No matter what oil + filter change is way cheaper than engine work.
