Cost of Replacemnt Transmission

S-I-L 1990 2.3 MTX and a reliable shop said the transmission is toast and wants $2500.00 to replace with a rebuilt tranny. Reasonable price?

if there doing the work then yes if not you can get them rebuilt all day long online for about $900 at smart parts.com
