Engine starts choking and misfires then starts to jerk violently

hello, im new to this kinda stuff and i need to find some answers bout my problem. i have a good general knowledge of how engines work and how to fix em but this is just getting on my nerves! i have a 97 for ranger 4 cylinder 5spd manual. and it starts fine; but when i start driving either right away or when i get on the highway it chokes and starts to backfire like hell. then i try to give it gas and it starts to jerk really hard. so far ive put fresh plugs and wires and new coil packs. fresh tranny fluid and oil. cant find any leaks in the vacumms. new fuel filter and i use gas treatment on every fill up. any help would be appreciated.

Any codes? Even with the check engine light not on you can have some Pending codes. (these are codes that trigger the Check engine light when they occur a lot.

ive had it scanned and it only comes up wit one code, i cant remember the precise code but it was telling us that there is a lean fuel mixture on the top bank. which would be the top oxygen sensor on the exhast, or a faulty mass air flow sensor. but so far ive pulled each sensor out and they look to be in good condition.

Try cleaning the MAF sensor.
