Hello Guys,
I recently purchased an '88 ranger ext. cab w/2.3. The guy told me it would run momentarily then shut down. The first thing I did was change the fuel filter. I could here the fuel pump run each time I would turn the key. Well, it won't start on it's own. If I spray gas into the intake, it'll run until the gas is used up, quick! This tells me I have fire. I tested the injectors per a site with an ohm meter. They checked out fine. 16.5 ohms each. I don't know how to check nor have the means to check if the electrical part to the injectors is working. Is there anything else that could cause this problem? If anyone has an idea what I need to do or have any suggestions, PLEASE, HELP!

Sounds like you need to test the fuel pressure.

 

You need to hook a fuel pressure gauge up to the port on the fuel rail. This definitely sounds like a bum fuel pump from the standpoint of an educated guess.

 

In addition to checking the fuel pressure you can pick-up a NOID Test Light to check the injector signal. I think Autozone sells them for around 15.00 dollars. Just plug it into the injector electrical connector and crank the engine and it should pulse on and off.

 

Thanks for the advice, guys. Does anybody know what the fuel pressure ought to be? And, I guess you are talking about the fuel pump located on the frame rail under the cab?

Are you sure you replaced the fuel filter lol

 

Yes I did Josh. It's located in front of the fuel pump in the frame rail. Is there another?
