Oil coming from below valve cover drips on ground

Hi everyone. my truck is a 99 2wd 2.5 ranger, automatic trans. When i got the truck we noticed a small leak where it would drip on the floor, coming from on the bottom of the oil pan. We figured it was coming from the rear main. Well a year and a half later, it still drips, and me and dad did took a look around for problems before i go back to school. We got under the truck and looked at the engine and the sides of the engine are covered with oily grit. It was like that when we got it keep in mind. I could feel it was wet on the drivers side all the way from the bottom of the oil pan to as far as i could reach up, which was up above the oil filter. So we looked above and seen right below the intake, there is a "tin can" as he called it. He said he thinks that is where the leak is coming from. he said something about the PCV as well. It isn't leaking bad, if it was parked in the garage for the night, there will be a penny sized puddle in the morning. Already replaced valve cover gasket. Can anyone give me some insight. Thank you.
