P0102

Well, I installed a 2.5L from a 2001 ranger into my 1998. (first time doing an engine replacement!) Started up right away but soon dies, can only keep it running by giving it gas, the check engine light is on and the only code retreived was P0102, I unplugged and reconnected the wires to the MAF sensor, no luck. Hard to believe the sensor went bad while I was cussing out nuts and bolts during an engine install!

Any suggestions on what I could do to find and correct this problem?

PS I did install new spark plugs & wires, I tried another used ignition coil pack but no difference.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Mark

P0102: Mass Air Flow Circuit Low Input

First of all, be absolutely sure that you don't have an unmetered air leak between the MAF and throttle body. This is a very common problem and will cause the stalling.

Some other possibilities are a damaged or dirty MAF, damaged wiring or incompatibilty in the combination of MAF, PCM and harness.

Thanks for the suggestions, I did recheck the connections on the air tupe going from the sensor to the engine. Next I will try spraying electronic cleaner on the maf sensor. will update later.

Well, I bought some electronic cleaner from Kragen's, said it leaves no residual. Took the MAF sensor out and sprayed it directly on the sensor wires, let it dry reinstalled and WOW!! it worked. runs smooth and error dtc did not return.

thanks guys for you sage advice
