please help with power issue

95 ranger, extended cab with spash bed...2.3 motor with 5 speed. i cant seem to rev pass 4k...just wont do it...seems to run fine otherwise other than not very peppy if you know wat i mean...i thought it might be the cat but i took it off tonite at work and sumone has already cleaned it out...lol so its not that...i have cleaned all the sensors...no luck...

please sumone tell me why i have nothing above 3500rpm...

my mother in law has a 95 with the 2.3, 5sp...hers is free reving and runs like a scalded dog...chirp 2nd gear no problem...mine wont get outta its own way...drives me nuts...

i run about 1500rpm at 60 mph...gas mileage is around 20 or so....

havent done plugs yet...but that shouldnt affect the rpm thing...so wat is it ?????????

thanks in advanced

First thing that jumps into my mind is the timing belt jumped one tooth..
Next is TPS.
Get the codes pulled.Just because there is no CEL doesn't mean there are no codes thrown.

I didn't think a 2.3 lima in an ext cab was capable of chirping the tires outside of 1st gear, but then again i guess i never really tried (in 2nd anyways)

And how are you running 1500 rpm at 60 mph? I'm turning about 2900-2950 at 65 mph (supposedly I have the 4.10's which seems to be rare for a Lima), so by my calculations you're either running a 2.28 rear gear, or a moderate gear with bigger tires (I'm guessing this is the case). Either way, our trucks are doggy enough as it is, I'm just trying to comprehend one with that tall of an overall gear to it, and how you would even use 5th gear.

[/OT]

As far as your rpm problem goes, I have no idea. Is it possible that something from the cat got plugged downward in the exhaust?

well my friends truck isnt a extended cab...but the motor is the same an it free rev,s and runs good ...i dont know about the rear gear...havent checked the tag...i have 16 inch rims on the truck though..off a newer ford explorer...my speedo is off about 10 mph too...(but the 1500 rpm, at 60mph is rite, got the speed from my GPS)...and using 5th gear is a joke...only on the highway above 75 mph is how...lol

i dont think the muffler is cloged. when i took the cat off last nite to check it i reved the truck up with no exhaust hooked up and it still doesnt go above 4000 rpm...kinda sounded a little wicked with no exhaust though...lol

sumone else on here is having similar problems with there truck...they havent gotten any answers that have worked either..yet...i am praying sumone on here will know wats goin on and give me the rite advice...thanks bro for your input
