Hi Everyone! I am new to this site, after looking through the posts i am sure you guys could be very helpful to me, i hope i can do the same for you one day. I am replacing my water pump on my '92 2.3, i got it out after wiggling it past the timing belt cover which by the way i have no idea to get off, it seems to me that i will have to take that cover off to scrape the surface clean to get gasket on, do i need to remove timing belt cover and if so, how the heck do i do that ??? thanks for the help, Ed

forgive me as I don't know much of what's going on even in my own ranger engine bay (yet...haha) especially not a 2.3 ranger. I did a quick google search...is this what you're looking at?

and you need to remove the outside cover? Or the one that's shown in the above pic? I would probably try using a small flathead screwdriver (about 3 inches long but medium to large flathead tip) to scrape it out.

all i need to do is remove the outside cover,cant seem to get it past the a/c compressor bracket, thanks

So you've got the cover off you just need to move it out of the way to clean the old gasket off? can you just undo one side of the bracket move it to one side? Or just drop the cover down into the bottom of the engine bay and leave it til you clean up the old gasket?

There are sites online that will give you a write-up on step-by-step processes for jobs. I'm guessing there are more than a dozen guys on here that have access to such software in their own shops and may be able to help you out with that.

edit: can you post up a pic or two? I'd just like to see what's going on and not ask horrible questions

and you still can't get the cover out of that? There's like at least 3-4 inches between the cover and the fan shroud, yeah? where is the bracket? to the right and halfway down or what?

Haha nice heat shield. Does is do anything? I'm about to try that for ****s and giggles....

On the intake hose? Please don't..

I cant get it beyond the bracket that has the idler pulley bolted on to, maybe i have to remove the crank pulley??? what a pita

Yeah, don't do the ghetto fabulous dryer vent for your air duct. Funny how that's your first post...I found the pic online, it looked good for what I needed.

As far as pics go, you have two (or more?) options:
1. what I did: I searched for pics on google images. In order to get the pic to do what I did you have to:
A. find a "direct link" that's cut and paste or,
B. you have to click the photo and it has to be the only thing on the page, then you can copy the text up in the URL address bar and paste it here.
2. make an account with flickr or photobucket (PB), or other site. I'd recommend for starters using one of the two. steps:
A. upload photo's
B. make a description, if you want.
C. Click on the pic one by one and get the direct link. In photbucket you just roll the mouse over the pic and it will show you 4 codes, look for the direct link. Usually PB will automatically copy it for you when you click on the link, but I like to make sure and hit "control C". In flickr you have a "photostream" and just click through til you get the pic you want. Above the pics there are loads of little buttons. Click the one that says "more sizes" and it will bring it up on "large" and at the bottom it has HTML and DIRECT links. Copy the direct link. You can also change the size from Large to the other sizes if you don't want massive pics but I like to use large pics :) haha

Now that you've copied the link, you come back here and click inside the "quick post box" where you would want the link to be. Now you can click the little mountain with yellow background (bold, italics, underline, text color, hyperlink, picture, make quote, etc) and it'll open up a little box, paste it in there and click ok and click Post.
