1996 2.3 L, 5 speed... Cuts out/dies at high RPM, hard acceleration....

My 96 2.3 liter has started cutting out at high rpm under hard acceleration.
It just dies hard, bucks the drive train a good one, which startles me and I let off the accelerator and it comes back to life...

Does not matter what gear, will cut out at high rpm regardless of gear.
My model has no tach so I am guessing 2000 to 3000 rpm.

I thought that the fuel filter may be restricting it at high flow and replaced it.... Still happening!

I thought it could be the fuel pump, so I dropped the tank and replaced it with an entire new assembly... Still happening!

I am now thinking it could be the cam sensor or the crank sensor but would appreciate some advice from those of you with 4 bangers that have had similar problems...

And if I replace one, should I just go ahead and replace both?

I have done allot of thread reading here and on other forums about the issue but EVERY thread gives only part of the story and NONE of those threads ever states whether or not changing the sensors actually fixed the problem! HAH! An oversight I will not allow on this thread!

This is not a rough idle or a hessitation, It is a cut out, total loss of power, no cylinders firing at all.
I guess I would have to ask why would coils, all 4 of them, act this way simultaneously?

It is more indicative of fuel or timing, and the more I read the more I am leaning toward an ECM issue induced by a crank or cam sensor failure over a certain rpm.

This issue happens reliably at or near the same rpm band... I am buying both sensors today.

Will post results...
