Transmission Bolt

Im trying to take my manual trans out of my 94 2.3 2wd and I have one bolt left. Its the one at the top on the passenger side. Its on really tight, any tricks or special tools I can use to get it out? Its in a hard to get to place so i cant get much leverage. Im sure someone here has had the same problem. Thanks

have you removed the tranny crossmember and let the rear of the transmission hang down on a jack? this should give you a bit more room up there. I cant really suggest much more then using a ratchet and breaking it loose, I have arms that cen get into all sorts of weird places so I dn't tend to have issues. You could possibly try going in from the wheelwell and getting a better angle on it from the side of the truck.

I used a very small cheater pipe on the wrench, making sure I was turning it the correct way since I was laying over the engine to reach in. There was no easy way to do it but with a little effort i was able to free it up. I did accidently knock the vacuum hose loose under the throttle body by reaching in (the same hose that the PCV valve is in) and it whistled for several months before I was able to find it. That hose is nearly impossible to see from a normal vantage point so I had to reach around and feel for the loose connection. I finally applied a snug fitting hose clamp just enough to hold it on without distorting the PCV valve.

Try what TireIron recommended, loosen and remove the tranny crossmember (don't forget the 17mm bolt that holds the exhaust), let the rear of the tranny hang down a little and then you can get to the top bolts a little easier.

I believe they are 13mm bolts. Then you can do what coots said. Put a pipe over the end of the wrench and use the leverage. They'll come out! Let us know!

I used a 24" extension, swivel joint, and socket chucked into my impact gun to drop my tranny. It took all of about 5 minutes that way. Definitely remove the crossmember and lower it first.

I finally got it. I dropped the trans cross member, lowered the trans, used a 36" extentension, ratchet, about a three foot pipe, and all my weight. Someone didnt want that bolt to come out. Thanks for all the help

Glad to hear you got it out. I remember taking that bolt out and it was a pain. I sprayed WD-40 on it and let it set for a few minutes to loosen up the rust, then it came right off.
