two vacuum lines from air filter housing

Hello to everyone. I have a problem with my 94 2.3l manual ranger supercab with A/C. I have had this truck for almost two years and have been struggling with it to try and figure out why it gets such bad gas mileage (around 10mpg). I really just need to know where the two vacuum hoses that come out of the temp sensitive sensor on the air filter housing go. I only have one of them. Its the one that comes out, goes to the A/c, and then ends up going to the intake manifold. So that ones all good but where is the other hose suppossed to go. My truck runs very lean so for right now I just sealed off the one hose I do have because its basically just open to the atmosphere because the other nipple from the sensor is not sealed by anything so hopefully this will richen it up a little. Can anyone PLEASE tell me where the other hose is suppossed to go. Thank you very much for your time.
Josh

The confusing item (to me, at least) is the "Air Filter Housing Box". If the hose to it is teed to the A/C vacuum controls, then my guess is that it is a vacuum reservoir. Does your A/C work correctly?

oh boy, ok on your 94 that other port would go to the intake between the air box and the headlight. it is a preheater door that would get pulled open when the temp is cold out and it would pull air from over the header to help warm up the truck. this is a very useful thing on a carbureted motor to keep the carb from icing up, however you have fuel injection and is not a necessary item to have because fuel injection doesnt ice up, so plugging the line running from the vacuum source to the air box is the way to go and i have had mine plugged for probly 4 years now since i removed the intake before the air box and put my snorkel in.

oh thats good then. Now since thats not the problem I gotta figure out what is. I guess maybe the fuel pressure or maybe just a tired truck. I havent checked the compression (mostly because Im afraid it is horrible). Guess its time though. Thank you all for the help so far. Lovin this forum so far.
