Wont start - no pressure at schrader valve

(97 Ranger 2.3L) Turns over fine. At first it would run for 15-25 seconds - now it just runs a few seconds. So I disconnected the line at the fuel filter. Turned the key to 'on' - heard the fuel pump and it spurted out fuel from the open line. Turned the key repeatedly to drained off some of the old cloudy/gunky stuff from the bottom (there was just a little) until became clear again. Then connected new fuel filter: But still no start. Next: with the key in 'on' position I went to the schrader valve and pressed the pin on the valve: nothing came out - NO pressure. Checked vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator (FPR) and it looked fine. Now what?

The wonders of A.I.: ChatGPT said I could disconnect a 'rubber hose' that connects to the fuel rail that the fuel pressure regulator (FPR) is attached to and then turn the key and see if any gasoline spurts out. If so the regulator is supposedly bad because it's simply sending the fuel back to the return. It said this connection would be easily visible from the top of the engine under the hood - but I have NO IDEA WHERE that connection actually is (I don't see it) - The fuel rail juts forward and is capped, and then juts in the other direction (away) into the shadows behind with no visible rubber hose connection there... so where is the FPR return access, then?

Question 1: Where do I find the return line connector from the FPR on this particular setup (see photo)?

Question 2: If it turns out there is a problem with the FPR - how might I then remove the far bolt on the FPR (in shadow and so not visible in photo) since it's crammed under the manifold in a very tiny space hardly accessible to any tools.
