08 2wd..SAS & 4x4 conversion
 

So iv been lurking pretty much ever canadian 4x4 site and craigslist for the past month looking for a solid axled wheeling rig for around $6000. The lifted 2wd just doesnt cut it and its not all that much fun. Not having to much luck in my hunt. Was just curious if anyone has done a leaf sprung solid axle swap on a 2wd and converted it to 4x4. Ill be honest Im deffinately a rookie in this subject and am spending alot of time researching this subject. Just wondering if you guys could throw some words of wisdom my way.

What would it entail to swap it to a 4x4. Im not all that tech savy...what type of price would I be looking at to have a shop do the SAS and 4x4 conversion? Would it be below $6000. Im basically just trying to see if it would be worth it to buy a specific wheeling rig or stay with mine and put some money into it

Given that your truck is an '08 and a 3.0L I will just say you are much better off at this point selling your truck and buying a 4x4 with a 4.0. Even with the depreciation of trading your truck in and paying for the 4wd you want will be less than the cost of having someone do the solid axle swap for you. Even if you did the work your sofl it could be cheaper, but you have to keep in mind that there is more than just the springs and axle. You will also need a transfercase and a different transmission and then all the wiring.

Ya thats deffinately what I expected. I would just really like to have a solid axle rig.. so much more capable

Try finding a 4.0 4wd '93 to '97 ranger if you want a trail rig that you can eventual put a sold axle under. From what I have read these years are the easiest to put a solid axle under.

I think If I wanted a trail truck I'd buy an older Jeep Cherokee just for trails and not as a daily.

^ Here you go, buy this (obviously I mean something like this) for a fraction of the cost of a SAS, it is cheap, ugly and everything on it can be fixed for tens of dollars when it breaks. Then keep your ranger for a daily.

im in the process of gathering all my my parts for my 99 2wd to sas. now picking up the axle this week end and i will have bought a trans and t case for $300 and the axle for $175
