One of my rear wheels has suddenly started wobbling noticeably. I took it to 2 mechanics, one said he didn't see what the problem was when he took the wheel & differential off, and the other said it might be a loose cord in the tire. I got new tires put on, and its still wobbling. I know it's not a bent rim because I switched the rear tires and the wobble stayed on the same side. My question is: Could this be a bent axle? Is replacing it a procedure that is worth doing for an old truck (1998, 180,000 mileage), as far as expense goes? And does the axle bend with normal rough road use? I didn't hit anything or even notice a slight wobble build up into what it is doing now.
I am getting a third opinion on it this week, I'm hoping it's a bad bearing instead.
