d30 maybe?

So ive been looking into doing a SAS, im kinda on a tight budget. i would like to do a d30 out of a wrangler with leaf springs. Upon all my research i have ran into an issue that i can't find an answer for. Ok so upon some research on my truck i found that it has 3.27 gears, and all the jeeps i have seen have 4.10's or 3.08's.....etc but none with 3.27:bigeyes:, that's my issue i don't know where to go from there would i be able to use the ring and pinion out of my ttb? What would be some pro and cons for ttb to SAS? O btw it's a 93 4x4 4.0, Any info will be greatly appreciated

Thank you, Jake

Why are you wanting to do this? DD? If it is rethink it.

And if you want 3.27's just regear that axle. It should probably be rebuilt anyway. But I would rather have 4.10's.

The reason i chose this axle, i can get one cheap, won't require swapping rears aswell, it will be about the same width. For the gearing, i dont really care what gears i have.....if i were to go with the 4.10's i could just swap the 4.10 carrier into my rear correct? Upon swapping to 4.10's would anything have to be done to the trans?

98liftedranger 02-02-2012 08:56 AM

No nothing would have to be done to the trans. And for 4.10's you would just need to swap out the gears. Read through the project logs threads and some How-To's and you will get a lot of info.

iv read through a bunch but there isn't much on the dana 30....and i havent really found any one explaining the gearing....but thanks for the info!

RazorsEdge did a D30, cdawall did a D30, and a few others. Just put in D30 in the search bar and you will get a lot of info on it.

ok ill check into them.....that link you posted doesn't really say anything, but ill keep searching. I think going with leafs up front would be my best bet.

I just saw that it was about D30 so I posted it. Didn't really reread it. But yeah I know there is a lot of info about a D30 on here though.

look up 08rangerdan. his truck has d30 leaf spring front. it works pretty good offroad and on. been out with him multiple times and he has a very well built and functioning truck with only a d30

cookiemonster 02-03-2012 05:49 PM

Ok so i did ALOT of research...and i mean alot of research and found answers to almost everything i wanted to know....except one thing i did not find, am i able to use my stock ranger front d/s or do i need the d30 front d/s from the jeep?

cdawall 02-03-2012 05:53 PM

Just go to the junkyard and snag a 3.55 ranger rear and an XJ D30 vast majority are 3.55 pretty much all the ones that are an auto without a tow package.

As for the front shaft what year anything 98+ is not going to work at all and will need the yolk changed on the front of the tcase as well.

cookiemonster 02-03-2012 06:08 PM

Truck it will be going on is 93....so would my front shaft work?.....would i need the yolk changed aswell with it being a 93?

cdawall 02-03-2012 06:20 PM

A 93 should already be a double cardone shaft and should work however the length may or may not work.

Ok one more question to anyone that might know, in order to run 4.10's...would i need to buy and 8.8 or could i just put the ring and pinion and axles in my 7.5?

98liftedranger 02-03-2012 11:17 PM

You can run 4.10's in the 7.5 as long as the gears are for that axle.

cdawall 02-04-2012 04:53 AM

Its cheaper from my experience to pull an 8.8 with 4.10s and install it in your truck than rebuild. I especially wouldn't waste the money on a 7.5 at least with the 8.8 you have a chance of swapping to good shafts

Ok thank you guys you've been a great help i greatly appreciate it. Glad i chose this forum, great people!
