swapping rear axle out for 6 lug ideas?
 

as of a few months ago I finished rebuilding my trans and I have been driving my truck everyday since I used the trail gear front I have been looking at swapping in a 6 lug rear as well but I am not sure if loosing the vss will cause serious shifting issues with my auto. i know a couple guys on here went with a different rear axle also I was hoping they could help me figure out a plan.

Not sure of what a "Trail Gear Front" is but assuming it is a D44, what bolt pattern does it have ?
If 6 lug pattern then it would make sense if you replace the 7.5, then use a rear axle with the same bolt pattern.
Question is how much work in involved in fitting a GM type axle in the Ranger ?

Maybe consider an Explorer 8.8 and new axles and rotors with a bolt pattern to match the front.

trail gear rock assault front axle housing it's a toyota style axle. I have not seem anyone build a 6 lug 8.8 and 6 on 5.5 I was hoping someone knows if just leaving the vss disconnected will cause shifting issues or if would be ok.

I personally had some 8.8 shafts made with 6 lug outters by Dutchmans Motorsports. Then had a machine shop drill out the rotors to match the shafts... everything's been working great for about 6 years.

You could always unplug the sensor and try it?

I think your model truck may have some issues but i am not sure.

Loosing the vss is bad. Truck goes into limp mode. You can mod the output of the tcase to take over the vss duty.

Or as has been said you can get 8.8" shafts made in any pattern and just get the disks/drums drilled to match. Heck you could run 5 on 4.5 to 6 on 5.5 wheel spacers on the easy.
