Icon5 1997 4wd ball joint replacement

greetings, My 1997 4.0 liter 4wd needs new ball joints..how do I get the old ones out..I have looked at the new parts and it looks like I will have to remove the hub and press out the old ones before installing new parts.. What is the best way to remove the ball joints from the truck??
Thanks in advance, and that 15mm clamp bolt on the top ball joint is TIGHT!

Welcome to the site. And a ball joint press might help you get them out of there. Can be rented at autozone.

I did them on my 99 not too long ago and I just beat the holy hell out of em with a mini sledge. If you can rent the tool I would take that route instead of goin nuts beating it with a hammer.

can I get the hub off by removing the brake caliper, backplate and the 4 13mm bolts that hold the axle in there?

If it is the same as my 99 you must remove all brake parts, remove your 4x4 hub (use a screw driver to pop it off but be careful not to break the plastic that holds it in). Inside your wheel bearing there should be a plastic ring with a metal ring holding it in. Remove the metal ring around the plastic one. Use hog ring pliers to remove the plastic ring and it should slide right off. Be careful not to break the plastic ring (I broke one and had to visit the dealership, it cost me like $11). Good luck.
