28-spline 8.8 U-Bolt Rod Size?

What is the rod size for factory 28-spline 8.8 u-bolts? Anyone know the largest size you can use with the factory plates?

I was thinking they are 7/16" or 1/2", but wasn't sure.

u-bolt size

They are 1/2" but the off rad applications are running a larger thread of 9/16" and drilling out the spring plates.
