2in front lift

hey guys
im picking up some exop leafs and shackles tomorrow and i was told that it would give me a 2 to 2.5 in lift...

so my question is what is the best way to go about lifting the front of my truck for the least amount of money?
i would like to also loosen my torsion bars so if i get 3 or 4 in of lift that will be fine

Thanks
-Andy

HillPrideRanger Sep 30, 2009 11:05 AM

i'm lifted in the rear the same amount as your going to be and want to do something to level my truck but i put the leafs in to help with towing. i'm thinking about going with this

EDIT: original lift kit i found only works on coilovers..

No it wont work on any 98+ 4wd.

Toms994x4 Sep 30, 2009 06:50 PM

Crank your torsion bars. Those leveling keys do the EXACT same thing as if you were cranking the bars. The only difference is you aren't paying $200+ for them.

did i miss something? do you mean "expo" meaning you are using explorer leafs?

if he's using explorer leafs in spring-over configuration, won't he get 5"+ lift?

HillPrideRanger Oct 1, 2009 07:09 PM

yeah explorer leafs
will i get 5"+?

big-blue-oval Oct 3, 2009 10:07 PM

i'm farily certain that all explorers are spring under axle.

once agian, i'm fairly certain that all rangers are spring over axle.

explorers and rangers have similar ride height.

using these leafs in spring over axle configuration in your ranger will net you around 5" of lift.

perhaps someone else can verify, but i'm quite certain!

big-blue-oval Oct 3, 2009 10:08 PM

oh, and if you're using explorer shackles, they probaby won't work.

HillPrideRanger Oct 6, 2009 10:31 AM

I installed my explorer springs last night
i had to use the stock shackles and i didn't get noticeable lift, maybe 2in but deff not as noticeable as 5in. The explorer 4 pack springs do not have as much of arc as the 3 pack ranger springs

my next question is what other shackles can i use to give my truck more lift?
I've herd of using Chevy lowering shackles?
any ideas?

Thanks
-Andy

perhaps the explorer springs were sagged? perhaps i was wrong... (my appologies if i was!) either way, how much lift do you want? that will dictate what your course of action is.

Dustin S Oct 7, 2009 06:31 PM

you are wrong.... they will not give you 5"... the explorer gets its height because the springs are mounted under the frame instead of on the side IIRC.

rideabikenick Oct 7, 2009 07:00 PM

chevy lowering shackles give 1.5" to the rear

HillPrideRanger Oct 7, 2009 10:54 PM

what if i use some stock shackles off a chevy? would that work?

morris Oct 7, 2009 11:55 PM

alot of guys use the lowered chevy shackles. i've never heard of the stock ones being used.
it's what plan to use when i lift mine. those and the 07 pre keys. i don't want much of a lit right now and that would suffice.

HillPrideRanger Oct 8, 2009 10:14 AM

but would they work?
and what do you mean the 07 pre keys? are those for the torsion bars?

morris Oct 8, 2009 10:38 AM

yea, ford changed the degrees of the keys for 08. it lowers the truck a couple inches.

as for stock chevys, i dunno. try it and see. hit up a junkyard and measure the rear shackles. see if there is any zr2's since they were top of the line for off road.

HillPrideRanger Oct 8, 2009 10:57 AM

how can i tell if they are zr2's?

RangerJacoby99 Oct 8, 2009 12:42 PM

the drivetrain should be zr2 it should have decal on the side of the chevy that says zr2 or maybe inside the door somewhere.

Woods-Rider Oct 8, 2009 01:31 PM

If you are wanting to lift the front and not do it by cranking torsion bars pretty much your cheapest option is superlift.

rideabikenick Oct 8, 2009 04:01 PM

you need the chevy 'drop' shackles. the stock ones wont work.

the drop shackles go upside down for ford, raising the rear instead of lowering it like a chevy
