Would a 2wd ranger be ok for mild offroading?

 

You can do more than that. Check my Cardomain site. Every offroading pic and movie is in 2WD.

You'll get stuck more than most so have tow hooks and straps and all or a winch etc. Go with friends always. You can have an awful lot of fun.

I got a locker for the rear also -- that helps a good deal. You won't be a 4x4 -- but you'll surprise lots of folks as your driving technique develops.

I'm in the process of converting to 4x4 after more than 5 years of wheeling it 4x2. It was 5 years of fun but I'm ready for new challenges.

 

with a locker a 2wd can be very capable, but don't get into rock crawling cause you will regret not have the front tires pulling you up.

 

pretty much as long as its not rock crawling 2wd will do great if set up correctly.

i personally think my 2wd truck is more fun than 4wd trucks in most cases.

 

Man, ain't that the truth, lol. I can't get up any rocks if there's not enough rear traction. Things that stock 4x4s climb right up stop my modified 4x2. That's a good part of the reason for the conversion.

its fun but go with friends that have 4x4s...you will do better on trails and tight roads where they cant turn like you can...i love being able to naviagate threw the stuff without backing up

 

That's true also. But I've lost that now...but I'm gaining something else, lol. Everything has it's plusses and minuses doesn't it?

 

Yeah I personally love playing offroad in my 2wd. I go mudding and trail running quite often. I welded the rear temporarily til I drop in an 8.8 and it made a HUGE difference in the performance offroad. Honestly my truck has been through more places off road than 90% of the 4x4 trucks that go with us.

But like what was said before. Always go with a 4x4 friend :) You never know what will happen. A whole you went through one day you might not make it through the next..
