please man.....search...

But you don't need to swap gears...even if you've got 3.73's.

33s and you don't have to change gears. I would if you have 3.55s or something.

i had 4.10's stock, put the 33's on and removed them a few days later, i did not install them untill i got 4.56's.

i like my transmission and it did not like 33's with 4.10's, it would only shift and stay in overdrive at highway speeds, the truck felt like it was lugging all the time.

the gear change brought it back to a somewhat stock feel.

remember my truck came stock with 235-75-15 inch tires and 4.10 gears, thats a 29 inch tire, do the math

ahhh 4.56 with 33's is pretty much over kill, by going from a 29 inch tire to a 33 you actually put the gears where they are supposed to be......like i said opinions vary, i personally ran 35's with 4.10's with a 3.0 and never had a complaint

haha ok guy, maybe just maybe they did that for a "tow" package??? ever looked at a gear chart?? hmm 4.10's are overkill for 29's, damn truck tacks like 3k at 60, thats terrible, and with 4.56's and 33's that wont be too much better, if you want worse mpg but you want to get that performance at short distances go for it but 4.10's make way more sense with 33's, but i dont know what im talking about so i guess i better stop talking.......

You can run 32's probably even 33's with 3:55's. I have been running 32's w/ 3:55's for about 3 months now, as a daily driver, on the highway, off road with no problems at all, it's just a hair slower than I like.

my truck didnt come with a "tow" package, nor did it come with a hitch.

i think the engineers know more about gears and PCM engine/transmission calibrations then you do steve.

if your truck came with 4.10's and you go with a larger tire then you will need a gear change.

Hmm...

It also depends on what size tires you go with. I had 3.73's but switched housings with 4.10's. I also put 31x10.50x15's on mine but promptly got rid of those tires due to problems with the steering. Bigger tires will effect your mpg's and and your steering so be prepared. The body lift I might have to do due to a V8 swap I'm doing in the future once it's paid for. The reason, exhaust clearance. But do some searching in here, you might find the answers your're looking for. Best of luck dude.

i have a v-6 4.0 and run 33x12.5's with 4.10's and the ONLY noticable thing is that it is a little slower taking off.....So to make a statement telling people that they need to regear or they will be miserable if they dont is untrue. now keep in mind im only speaking for the 4.0 i can imagine the upgrade would be noticably beneficial with a 2.3 or something

no thats not true at all just stop i dont care what ford did, its simple gear ratios that you do not need to re-gear with 4.10's and 33's, complete waste of money unless you really really need that extra low end and really want to lose mpg.......

Not really sure. I will probably have a new tuner that I can have set w/ my 32's and gears and then I will be able to figure it out, but if I had to guess it'd be around 17mpg.

Hi rededge02,
nope I didn't tell him to regear. I did tell him about the problem I encountered though. I have a 3.0. My fuel Mpg dropped 4 mpgs with the 31x10.50's and had to have the steering box replaced because of it. The 4.10's were my choice cause the truck when I got it felt like it had no ***** on the lower end of the RPM range. That changed with the 4.10's. Also, before I changed ratios I could run around 75 MPH before I notice a huge Fuel consumption. Now it's between 65 and 70 MPH. If he wants to re gear that's his choice. But like I said it depends on what size of tires he chooses. No disrespect intended dude.

man thats crazy sounding, i dont think it was your gears that did it, 31's are not really a big step up from stock at all, i personally had a 3.0 with 4.10's and 35's and still got over 16mpg

Well you are both right and wrong dude. It depends on the tire size he chooses. You are right about a towing package though. The dealerships do offer an upgrade for towing but the tow hitch isn't installed. When I got mine every salesman in there wanted me to add the towing package. I said no to everyone. It's alot of work and costs alot. 04edge was a little off about the towing package. With the 4.10's you won't lose that much MPG's until you reach between the 65 MPH and 75 MPH speed limits. Just remember the higher the number the lower the gear the faster you take off. But in return you can't run at higher speeds with this mod either.
