rear wonders after hitting bumps

whenever I hit a bump in the road at highway speeds, the rear of my truck wobbles only after I hit a bump as the rear suspension doesn't take it straight. My truck has 97K miles on it with stock shocks and the frontend is sagging with somewhat new ball joints so I'm sure some new Bilsteins couldn't hurt it.

Anyway, granted there's not much back there for weight but lately it's been getting worse. Hitting bumps at highway speeds, railroad tracks, stuff like that. It almost feels like the rear is going to fishtail but it doesn't. Best way I can describe it. -Mike-

mine does it too... easiest way to help this is sway bars and traction bars

they arent expensive and they work wonders

I eliminated this on my '00 by putting the t-bolt sway bars and lakewood traction bars on.

i think the sway bar kit was like $60 (ebay) and they trac bars were $100 (summit)

traction bars will help against wheel hop, while a swaybar will help against side to side movement


i'd look into a Bronco II 1inch rear swaybar. Its the thickest they make factory (thicker then the thunderbolt one as well)


Also, just adding some weight in the rear will help against wheelhop. Thats something to think about if you dont want to spend money towards traction bars

speaking of money, i just got done paying off my college loans and I'm still off cigs for 3 weeks straight now, so I'll be making alittle more money now, don't want to sound like a bragger.

I like those James Duff bars, I'm assuming they should bolt right in my truck right? and from the looks of them, the process is similar to sway bar links? -Mike-

Mine "jumps" too on bumps at any speed, I don't like it. I also have stock springs and shocks. The springs are worn and pretty much flat, aka 'not arched', which I think allows the thick helper spring to hit the springs making them stiff and hard, when any bump is gone over making the springs travel. Personally I think the leaves are too stiff without any load in the bed, which makes the ride terrible.

These trucks are so stiffly sprung and light in the rear that some weight really helps the wheel hop and wandering over bumps. And helps traction too.

Give it a shot--throw your toolbox in the far back or a sandbag or your wife and drive the same bumpy road--you might be surprised. And it's free! Well except when your wife asks for a divorce...LOL
