'94 B4000 4x4 front suspension rebuild
Hi everyone,
As the title states, I have a 1994 B4000 with 98k and tired front suspension I'm looking to refresh. I've been advised that at a minimum I should do ball joints, u-joints, possibly wheel bearings, most likely struts, and possibly tie rod/ends. What I am wondering is if anyone has any suggestions or guides as to which parts to buy? I know that I should go with MOOG parts, and that is my plan, and I have been looking at RockAuto and Summit for parts, but I just want to be sure that I buy all the right parts. In addition, I'm not sure if the truck has a lift or not; it looks taller than other Rangers I've seen, but I don't know. Also, if anyone has any suggestions of other things that should be replaced while I've got everything apart, I'm all ears. Thanks in advance! |
Welcome to the forum
Ranger front suspension seen here: https://therangerstation.com/tech_li...spension.shtml I would just check the lower ball joints and wheel bearings for play But yes, if you replace the ball joints you should always replace the 4x4 axle u-joints at that time they are cheap You have coil springs up front so no Struts Shocks are a personal choice and you should get shocks for your vehicles use, if its a daily driver get shocks that give you a smooth ride Tie rods last a long time on Rangers, check them for play but don't replace them just because................. |
Rock Auto is a solid place to buy. Very reasonable prices and really quick shipping, and I haven't gotten the wrong part from them, yet *knock on wood*
My friend with an '05 4x4 says replacing the stock, non-adjustable camber bolts with adjustable camber bolts is a good idea; especially with a lift to get a good contact patch of rubber to the road. They're a cheap part, and relatively easy to replace. Here's what I'm talking about: |
