add a leaf lift

has anyone actually done an add a leaf lift on their truck. i only need about an inch or 2 for the lift so i was curious if anyone had used them before

telemaster1952 06-02-2006 11:27 AM

nope but i hear they tighten the suspension up a lot

zabeard 06-02-2006 11:29 AM

i have. it will raise the rear 2-3 inches. its not too hard.

04lvl2 06-02-2006 11:30 AM

I have one as well.

mx98ranger 06-02-2006 08:48 PM

so you said that it will actually raise the rear 2-3 inches? thats a little more than i expected ...

Egor29 06-03-2006 01:02 AM

I have it too and it added a nice even look to my truck. the leafs give you a lift but stiffer suspension.

I also have a AAL.......Not too bad to install, if you have a BL mine was a PITA....because the rear leaf mounts wouldnt come out because they were hitting the trailer hitch, so i had to remove the hitch and bumper....im not sure how much it added on mine, since i took a 1" block out, it lifted it probably 2" or more

If 2-3 " is too much, throw a sand bag or two in the bed. added weight back there will give you better traction

Redneckstone 06-03-2006 08:11 AM

with just 1-2 do a shackel drop that will only give like 1.5 if that

graniteguy 06-03-2006 08:23 AM

I added a stock spring and got betweem one and two if memeory serves me right. it was pretty stiff until I put the 285/75/16's on. I guess the taller side walls added some cushion. Had I known about the chevy shackles at the time I would have done that instead to keep the ride quality.

Redneckstone 06-03-2006 08:24 AM

there only like $50 wayne

yeah. I didn't know they existed when I added the spring. Considering you don't have to tear down the spring pack makes it a no brainer.

wait... how do i get a hold of some of these chevy shackles... and how do they install

graniteguy 06-03-2006 09:05 AM

It's a Chevy lowering shackle. Should be easy to find.

i'd also be interested to see how they install.

anyone know what part's are needed to do AAL's (or is that chevy shackle it??)

and if possible.. would someone be able to find me a link for what i'd need.... i'd look myself, but it wouldn't do much becuase i'm not sure what all i'd need, or if i'm looking at the correct things, etc...

shackels well follow your leaf back all the way to the back you will see the stock shackel undo the bolt and nut holding the leaf pack on then undo the bolt holding the shackel to the hanger. there is a special nut on the inside of the hanger that will alow you to loosen without putting a wrench on it. no install the shackel to the leaf pack then install it back to the hanger you will need to reach up and hold the nut in there and screw the bolt in after you get it hand started just tighten up...

see above lol.. and to install the AAL just undo the U-bolts and slide it in then tighten..

resqdude 06-03-2006 09:04 PM

I have AALs and shackles and it gave me about 4 inches. But the are still sitting on my stock block...

mx98ranger 06-03-2006 10:28 PM

ok... i got off work a couple hours ago... and while i was there i realized that i might be able to order some shackles thorugh work. i decided to look on the shelf and found a box of belltech lowering shackles... and the part number was 6400. the 6400 part number means that its for a 2" drop but it didnt say for which vehicle. im guessing that these are the chevy shackles ... and i checked our catalog and i couldnt find lowering shackles to order and match up with the other part. but anyways, i havent bought them yet because i wanted to be positive that these will work before i drop the $35 bucks on them. are these the same ones that everyone else has?

*EDIT* ok im an idiot... i just saw that zach posted them online... so those are the ones im looking for. also i wondered how long they take to install... and does anyone think that the shacle lift will look goofy with a 1.5" lift in the front?
