Anyone running with just Coil Overs?

On another thread some a member linked me to coil overs for a 2wd truck and I was wondering if anyone use just coil overs for lift? What I want to do is use coil overs in the front (3") and a block spacer in the rear (2") and get some bilstein shocks designed for a 3" lift all the way around. After words I would get an alignment and all that for sure. So I was wondering if anyone has lifted their truck this way and if they got the results they wanted?

Gay-Briel at one point had the 2.5 lift which was lift coils on one of his rangers...

do you remember how he said it road?

RangerJustin 02-09-2007 06:25 PM

ok, first

a ranger 2wd non edge/sport(06+) has coil springs, not coilovers

So, you are looking for lifting coil springs

I ran a Fabtech 2.5 performance setup that included a 2.5iinch lifting coil and replacement upper control arms to allow proper alignment.

Personally, on my little regular cab 4banger, it road like crap, i had NO flex in the front suspension, it was completely maxed out by the coils. Now, since you have a 4.0 v6, the coils are ment for the weight of your engine to compress the coils properly

Second

A 3inch spindle lift for a 4x2 is VERY easy and cheap compared to a coil lift, they Shouldnt require ANY alignment and just replace your stock spindles. They also dont require longer shocks or anything

Personally, Ive ran both setups seperate and together. And if i only wanted 3inchs, id go with spindles, and if i wanted the full 5.5, id go with both

Well Springtech 3" spindles and 2" blocks are 349 bucks. I guess I might as well get that

Ok I have a question, with blocks for the rear leaf springs do I need new shocks to adjust for the difference? Or should stock be ok?

yes, you would need whatever size block, that much more in length for the shock

i.e 2inch lifting blocks need rear shocks ment for 2inch of lift

because your shocks attach to your axle, and the blocks are pushing the axle further away from the upper shock mount
