axle wrap

I've been experiencing a "clunk" in the rear of my 2000 Ranger. 4x4. This happens when taking off from a dead stop mostly. Really noticeable after a hard braking. Looking at it today, I noticed the rear axle rotates quite a bit just by rocking the truck back and forth in park. The diff doesn't seem to have much slop and the u joint appears ok. Any suggestion?

James duff traction bars. About $100 and they are easy to install.

If you have a 2 piece rear drive shaft, the slip joint can make a clunking noise when you start and stop. I have to grease mine every 15,000 or so to keep mine from clunking.

check your u joints and you should really use your parking brake.

your transmission is not a kickstand
