bit of problem with shock mounting
I was changing the front shocks today and on one side I sheared the bottom mounting bolt straight off with the end of the mount. How would I go about removing the whole bottom mount so I could just stick a bolt into its place. I really don't want to go about replacing the whole suspension arm.
And no I dont have a oxy/acy torch, that would be too easy. |
your talking about the bolt that goes into the radius arm right?
I don't know if it goes all the way through does it? If not you could have someone weld a new one on. That or cut it off as flush as you can with a hack or sawzall and drill a new hole.
it goes the whole way thought i broke mine off but i could still tread it so i just used it like that but my mechanic told me to just pound it out with a sledge and get a new one from a dealer and tighten it till its the whole way in
It it flush with the inside of the arm. And yes the radius arm I guess it is.
I'm going for the sawzall and drilling a new hole idea. But its a welded in bolt so I'm going to get a bolt and do it up like my rc car shocks. If someone is worried I can get a picture of how I'm doing it. |
Alright I got the bolt type dealie off with an angle grinder and have now moved onto putting in a new bolt. The problem now Is getting a hole big enough to fit the 5/8" bolt though. How do I drill a hole this big?
Alright thanks for the numorious posts on how to fix this. I ended up making a trip to lowes and finding a 5/8" drill bit ($17 ah) that worked marvelously with the drill I just had to get (good excuse to buy a new one). Plus I had bought a new angle grinder earlier today. So good day of tool shopping.

Good deal. New tool excuses rule.
Now to think of something else to break to get some more use of the tools.
Step drill bit at harbor freight - $7 dollars
But that wont drill to a depth of 3/4" I don't believe.
So the bolt through the arm worked well because I have this problem right at the moment and was woundering if that works well.
