Can anybody tell me what this is? (Pictures)

Hi...a while back I noticed something weird sticking out from between my driver's side leaf springs. I haven't noticed any funny noises or unusual leaning, but tonight while checking my tire pressure I figured I'd put some pictures up and find out if it's something I should be worried about.

With flash, "Auto" setting, overview shot:

No flash (flashlight illuminated) close up "Macro" shot:

Whatever it is it's somewhat flexible and feels like it's stuck in there pretty good. Any ideas?

What you are looking at, is the leaf pack "pads" or something. It goes in between each leaf. I've seen rigs with them, i've seen rigs without them. So I have no clue if you can pull them out or what. It's made of plastic. I'm sure it's a no biggie though.

If you flex the rear end out, i'm sure you can just pull it right out.

don't know the proper name, but its a vibration pad

they go between the leafs and when the truck suspension is moving, the leafs move and sometimes separate alittle on those end, and the pad keeps the noise down

lol thanks to both of you for the quick responses. I checked the passenger's side and it looks like there's one of those "vibration pad thingies" fully sandwiched between the leaves over there. But if it's just a "keeping vibration down" thing I guess i won't worry about the one on the driver's side sticking out like that...it's been in that same half-in/half-out position for a while now.

I thought they were for anti-squeak purposes, but I'm not 100% sure. My 97 2wd didn't have them, while my 05 FX4 does. I can't recall anytime I had a vibration or squeak in the 97 however...

Thats actually called an Anti-friction pad......

They are for alot of things, noise, vibration, etc......however, their purpose in life is to keep the spring leaves from wearing against each other.

Yeah, they're just "anti-squeak pads". Keeps the leaves from rubbing together and making noise. Don't worry, be happy.

Ya no ****. I had a radiator hose laying against the serpentine belt. Thankfully they were at least smart enough to put a guard on the hose.

Indeed! I had a few areas of rubbing as well! Always inspect your undercarriage and engine compartment for such nice items!

Have a Blast on the 4th!!!
