cheapest method of lifting ?
 

I am not 100% sure if i want to lift or lower the truck yet, but..

-what is the cheapest method of lifting my 98 ranger 4 banger, 2wd, 5spd truck about 2-4 inches?

-will the truck fit 31-33inch mud-terrain tires? if not, what all is need to make it work?

-will the 4 banger be able to push the truck properly with a lift and bigger tires?

-are gears readily available for the 7.5 inch rear end? are they needed?

Summit Racing offers a 3" body lift for around $150 I think.

The tires will help you significantly in the Mud versus stock or street tires, but your not going to be running with full out rigs with just a 2wd and a body lift. If you really wanted a mudder, you'd best to get an older 4WD Ranger (or any 4WD but I'm obviously not impartial) to start out with.

With a 4-banger and 31 inch tires, I think you'd best to go with 4.10 or 4.56 gears. And if you really want to make it a weekend wheeler throw in a lunchbox locker (Powertrax No-Slip I've heard good things about). With gears and locker you'd have a pretty capable rig for just a almost stock Ranger. Anything bigger then 31's, I'd go 4.56 for sure if not 4.88.

well i still want to have it driveable, and get good decent gas mileage on the highway. i just want something that is a little bigger then stock with some good tires, so lets say about 1 time a month when my friends go out for some fun, i can just go out to the offroad spots and tailgate.

Don't mean to hi-jack your lift thread... but what type of mods does it have? Always love seeing Cobras.

I'm guessing some pretty heavy duty stuff if it can beat the GSXR. Looks really good though.

well it beat the gsxr when the gsxr was just basically stock-but lowered and stretched. eitherway the gsxr stock is a 9 sec bike. it beat the gsxr from both a 40-60mph rolls. since then, the gsxr has gotten a fully worked head, cams, nitrous, and some more supporting mods aswell. I am sure at it's current state that the GSXR will win.

the cobra has way to many mods to list,
but it has a fully built motor(stroker)
bigger supercharger @24-26lbs of boost
2 stages of nitrous
fully built t-56 tranny
fully built i.r.s rear end.
and all the supporting mods.

it only runs on 110 octane unleaded blend fuels. and it probably gets about 6 mpg, so it is definately expensive to drive.

well uhh, I'm guessing you're going for looks?

I guess I'd just recommend you get a body lift, 33 inch tires, or be super cool and get a body lift/suspensions lift and 35 inch tires. Then go to a junkyard and get a 95+ explorer rear axle with stock 4.10 gearing and maybe an L/S. It'd be all about looks, since it'd still be a slow truck.

But I guess in my mind the 2wd hinders you a lot. Many people would disagree with me , it all depends on what your idea of offroading is i guess.

can i ask why you switched to a IRS rear end over the stock solid axle? i would bet the solid axle could be hooked up easier......

as far as a lift for your truck, a body lift would be the cheapest way...

well you could weld in 2' pieces of steel square stock and take out the springs/shocks.........that would lift it..

new Mustang body style......ahhhh i consider the GT500 an equal or better than the Cobra's....

you can always get another ranger or explorer axle(explorer you have to weld new springs on) and throw some 4.30 gears in it and then put a new locker in that. lift the thing with a BL if that doesn't clear the 31's put some 2" lift coils up front an blocks in the rear.

my rear end in the cobra is fully built, it could cut 1.4 60fts all day long.

SUPER NICE COBRA no body lift above 1 in in my opinion, i have seen them break before and it wasnt pretty
