cranking torsion bars
#27
Tell your dad that a bunch of people on the internet think he's a bad engineer.
ALSO, you can lift one side of the truck at a time and do the torsion bars. There's absolutely no reason to lift the rear end of the truck off the ground, you would only be making it more dangerous.

I'm a construction manager but you don't see my not doing oil changes on my truck because "I've seen the results of an oil spill on the slope".

This is kinda funny cause the guys name is snowwheeler and his dad works for boeing. Pretty good odds he works in Everett, WA.

The body will rock on flat ground, that means nothing.

It wouldnt make it more dangerous it would make it safer because three wheels would be on the ground and only one corner of the truck lifted at a time.
Yes you can make it rock on two jack stands if you try at it by shoving on the sides but all your doing is turning two bolts. Your not going to cause it to rock or fall of the stands by doing that. I have been under my truck several times while it was on two jack stands and have never had it where i thought it was going to fall.

Your biggest problem with this is your dad is an ENGINEER!!!!! All engineers are pain in the asses. They all think if it works on paper it's alwaysgotta work in real life. WRONG!!! As a mechanic I see stupid engineering every day.
Trust the people who know how to do it properly and safely. Almost every person on this forum with a torsion bar front end has played with their torsion bars at some point. Its not rocket science

If you seriously think that you need 4 jackstands under your truck to turn 2 bolts safely, don't do it at all.
It's really simple, you're overthinking this, test our theory
Jack up the front, put 2 jackstands under the front the nudge the truck a bit, it's not going anywhere.
As long as you put the jackstands in a good location, you should have nothing to worry about

or don't even use jack stands at all...just jack it up....ur only going to be under there for like 3mins...if that...and IF it falls (which it wont) then the tires are still on the truck and it will just fall like 3 inches and then the tires will catch it.....u and ur dad don't sound lie you know anything and u come on here talking **** to people trying to help you and ur too scarred to go under ur truck to crank ur t-bars....quit reading the safety manual and man up and crank ur **** if u want it cranked.....

Ok listen up little boy. I am pretty sure since I am a mechanic I am far and beyond more qualified than you and your dad to Jack up a truck on stands. As someone who has done **** like this plenty of times before I know what the hell I'm talking about
#37
Ok listen up old man, i have seen plenty of mechanics do a half *** job at working on vehicles. including getting them off the ground. So dont think that since you are a mechanic you know what the hell you are talking about. This thread stared as a simple question about wether or not les schwab can crank them. You *******s turned it into a thread where people talk **** about my dad(who by the way has experience of putting a vehicle on jacks). So if you guys are just gunna be *******s about this then dont right on the fukin thread.

the problem is that the back end isnt as stable as the front. the suspension has play and so do the tires. when its on 4 jacks the truck wont budge for anything
#44
True, but in the situation of cranking t-bar bolts, there is a very low chance torquing the truck, but I see what you're saying
#45
the big problem is that im gunna have to do this in a parking lot somewhere cause my drive way is dirt. so what if someone backs into my truck while there is 2 stands? i would much rather have 4 in that case
#46
What if you have it on 4 stands and theres an earth quake? What if jesus comes back from the dead and turns your jack stands into a zebra cakes? Your over thinking this whole thing.
#48
Your dads a moron. You don't have to use any jackstands at all, just a jack. You jack up the front of the truck by the crossmember enough to get the front wheels a few inches off the ground, while the emergency brake is on. And the you get under it and turn two bolts with a ratchet and socket. Not rocket science, child. Nothing will happen to you unless you either take off the front wheels while you do it or you lay under the front tires while its jacked. In either of those cases, you would deserve to die anyway. Does your dad not go in elevators unless he inspects them first? Not fly on planes unless he expects them first? Not ride in another car unless he inspects it first? Not eat out unless he inspects the kitchen first? Not drive down the street unless he inspects it first? Your dad sounds like hes still a virgin.

This thread is fu-king retarded. lmao
Ask your dad if he keeps four jackstands and a hydraulic jack in his car to replace a flat tire. This is stupid.
It's not a freaking airplane. All you are doing is removing the weight off of the torsion bars to make the bolts easier to turn. You can use just a jack if you like, lift it just high enough so the tires are barely touching (maybe 3"). If it somehow collapses, your truck will come down 3", maybe 4" if it dropped fast. Two jackstands under the front with the rear tires blocked is more than safe.
