Finally Got Some New Shocks

Well, it was finally time to put new shocks on. Went with the KYB Monomax all around. The shocks that I took off were the originals with almost 122,000 miles on them. No wonder I felt everything. Check out the difference in the shocks. I was able to compress the old ones by hand and some even stayed down or took a while to extend back.

And while I had the tires off I figured I would install my new cam/caster bolt kits. Once I figured them out, they were a breeze.

Doing the shocks weren't bad at all. First time I've done shocks. Only problems I ran into were I snapped one of the bolts so I went and got grade 8 hardware for all instead and one of the front shock kits was missing all the hardware, I had other new shocks laying around so I made dew.

Black Anger 07-14-2009 02:03 PM

Yea, so far so good. It was funny I went to step on the back of my truck and it barely went anywhere now. It was a good feeling.

Yea thanks Mitch. It rides a lot better now. Defiantly way overdue.

Its sitting on my desk at work. I have to stare at it everyday all day. Its killing me that I havn't had time to put it on yet, no to mention buy the bolts. You start working on yours yet?

freddie 07-14-2009 02:24 PM

Awesome dude! I want to put some Bilsteins on my F250 soon, but I'm broke.

I'm really kind of surprised at how much difference those new shocks made in the ride height. Bet the truck rides nicer?

WowMike2001 07-14-2009 02:27 PM

Heck yeah bad! I swear by MonoMax all day every day - its a bit stiffer then "stock" but its a truck - and I loooove being able to load up 500 lbs of weight in the back of the truck and it rides like a dream down the highway

Black Anger 07-14-2009 02:27 PM

I attempted last weekend, but only to find out that the bolts must be full thread, because each mount has a threaded collar, my dad & I thought the space between would be free slide, I guess having the collar leaves no play for the bolts to move. Anyways the new bolts have been ordered so hopefully this weekend. Anyways Full thread bolts don't forget! Also this is soo easy, you should do it sooner than later, if you have any questions let me know!

Bought those same shocks and a love them, install went well really easy first time I did shocks myself. Definitely does give the truck some more clearance after! Truck looks good man

Yea, I've been saving my pennies b/c I knew I needed them. I'm rather broke too. But what I was doing before I took a pay cut at my 2nd job was everyday to throw $10 in a 5 gallon water jug. No to mention all my change and any singles I had left over for the day. I had almost 2 grand saved up in no time and a lift was on its way. But **** happens and I'm happy that I had that money saved up to pay the bills I needed to pay for.

Yea, I wish I measured, but oh well, I knew it was going to make a difference in the height. I heard so many people say that it won't increase my height, well they were wrong. I guess thats what happens when you have 122,000 hard miles on OEM shocks. Well considering I forget what shocks are suppose to feel like in the truck, its defiantly an improvement. The truck isn't bouncing all around anymore.

Full thread got it. Thanks. Good to know. Well once I move back home and have some more free time, I will defiantly be doing this.

Hah, I had stock shocks on mine at 120k as well - I have a video somewhere here on my computer or on photobucket or somewhere - I was showing me pushing it down against the ground and compressing it with one hand.. and when it came back up you could hear it gurgling and sputtering as it slowly rose - was disgusting!

j99ranger4x4 07-14-2009 04:53 PM

monomax's for the win.

speedranger 07-14-2009 05:19 PM

I did my shocks about a week ago, origionals with 114k. they were horrible, new ones ride wayyy nice!

sullys_ranger 07-14-2009 05:47 PM

Thats b/c you keep changing your suspension set up.

At least I know I'm not the only one to keep stock shocks on the truck past the 110k mark.

freddie 07-15-2009 07:24 AM

Both my 98 and 01 have stock shocks on at 100k. The 98 is getting new shocks though. The fronts are already on but I'm not installing the rears until after I swap in the torsen diff.

crazy j 07-15-2009 09:13 PM

those monomax's are great just installed them in the rear and the gas a just's up front about 4 days ago and wow big differance did about same for ride hight not as high though.

strakill 07-15-2009 10:55 PM

^^^ Huh?

heaton84 07-18-2009 06:07 PM

Haha, I was digging up info for replacing my shocks and I came across this thread. I'm not sure what this says about me, but I'm almost to 200k and I think my rear shocks are original. The upper sleeves have rusted off and fallen down around the bottom portion now. My poor truck has been so neglected!

t5cents 07-18-2009 06:41 PM

ya im on my stock shocks at 170,000 miles. it rides nice to. however my truck bottoms out with 5 people in the bed. and i bottom out all the time going over woops. but it rides so nice. it floats over the woops and absorbs all the bumps. i can compress the front end 2 inches by pushing on it tho.

Thats because its 100% leafs taking the bumps ya know - bad for the suspension

cchsbuzz19 07-19-2009 06:43 AM

I'm pretty sure my shocks were stock at 155,000 when I replaced them, they were caked in rust, Now I got Monroe Sensa trac shocks and personally I wouldn't recommend these to anyone.
