A good lift for my Bronco?
 

I've started doing the research putting a 6" suspension lift on my 89 Bronco and I could use some input on what's good, as well as what's affordable. Here's what I've come up with so far:

Superlift 6" w/shocks - $1176 at 4wheelparts.com

Skyjacker 6" w/shocks - $1200 at 4wheelparts.com

Procomp 6" w/shocks - $1099 at 4wheelonline.com

These prices are all on the "Class 1" or "Stage 1" lifts. Any help would be greatly appreciated :biggrin:

I like skyjacker better, i don't know about the others but i know skyjackers kit is upgradeable

Can you not find anymore information on these? Look at what is included in each of the kits and see which you think is better.

From what I understand, they're all pretty much the same thing, shocks, coils, add a leafs and a few other misc. parts.

I like the skyjacker kits myself, i have never heard anything bad about them.

john, u can get a complete rough country lift for around $600 on ebay. it included the drop down brackets for the TTB, radius arm drop brackets, blocks for the rear, shocks, pitman arm and i think extended brake lines.

its not the best kit but its cheap and effective. and by best i mean from my experience, id like to recommened a lift that comes with the extended radius arms but not everyone can swing that much $$ for a lift.

since this is going to be ur toy, id go with the rough country lift. what are ur desired tire size and plans for this?

I'm thinking I'd like something other than a Rough Country kit, from the rep I've heard of them on here. I can probably find a way to afford something up to 1500.

I'd like to go with 37 -38.5" tires if its possible. I'm thinking I'll just trim the fenders and add on some bushwackers as Jey suggested.

38s is pushing it for a stock 1/2 ton drivetrain. u may be better off just dropping a solid axle in there.

theres nothing wrong with rough country lifts, i know people and have wheeled the piss outta trucks with there kits and all is well. my gripe is with a 6" lift, the drop down brackets for the radius arns can put more strain on the frame where they mount.

but for $1500 u can get a stage/class 2 lift with extended radius arms for more wheel travel, better ride and easier allignment.

If 38" will put too much of a strain on the truck, a 37" tire will be alright with me, if the truck can handle it. What would the stress on the frame do with the drop down kit, and would I get those same stresses if I used a stage 2 kit?

just make sure u have enough axle for tire.....

its not every truck has that problem but the bolts tend to come loose and begin to rub the frame. this weaken the frame by tempering it and then small fractures may occur. also the long drop brackts add more leverage to the frame and thats where the problems arise. i seen it a few times on fullsize fords, not saying it will even happen to urs. just letting ya know.

with the extended arms, it uses factory radius arm brackets which are build better and are less prone to fatigue.

in all honesty, u can fit 35s with just a 3" body lift and possibly shimming the bumper a little. that'd be ideal IMO because its cheap and keeps the center of gravity WAY down.

just giving ya several differnt options.

I appreciate the different options. I thought about 35's, but I've been stuck in thier ruts before, so I wanted to go bigger, that's why I've got my mind set on 37's.

What I'm seeing is that it comes with only 4 shocks. I have a dual shock setup on the front, so I'm wondering if these setups will still work with my truck?

Edit: I called 4wheel parts and they said it will still work with the double shock system, I just need to order two more shocks.

is this a bronco or a bronco II? the kits and drivetrain and suspension and what fits and doesnt and can be handled vary greatly between the two.

i am a skyjacker fan so thats what i would chose

i don't know about that big of tires with only 6 inches, what about a 3 in body lift as well?
My co-worker has a '95 150 on 38.5x15's and it has a 6in sus lift, and a 3 in body lift, and he said if it wasn't for the body clearing 35/36 would have been tough. I don't know too much about the older version of the fseries/bronco though.

That's where the trimming of the fenders and the buswhacker flares would come into play. I'm trying to stay away from the body lift if I can.

2 of my friends have rough country (a jeep cherokee and a 04 blazer).. the quality seems to be hit or miss. My friends jeeps lift is not bad.. cant beat the price...but the blazer breaks parts right and left. Everything from alignments to bent tie rods

meem, i dont see how he cant clean 35s with a 6" lift...i have a 2" front lift and clear 33s. i know a lot of guys who run a 4" lift with just 35s. 6" can fit 36s...but its all up to how each person likes.

winks, u dont need to run quad shocks up front if u dont want to. oh and u'll need extended brake lines...im almost positive.

skyjacker make an 8 inch lift also, why not go for a 8 inch lift ?

I am worried about the center of gravity being too off. Would there be much more difference in an 8" lift vs. a 6" lift?

Kiel, when I called up 4 wheel parts, they told me that it is suggested that you get the 6" extensions for the brakes, but you don't have to. I plan on getting them.

What do they have up front D44 ? Whats the biggest tire you think it can handle ? Whats the weak link the front, rear axel, driveshaft ?
