My ranger is a 2002 XLT 2wd with front coil springs.To install the rear shocks you need a 15mm closed end and a 18mm closed end.It took me a few minutes to figure out the sizes here,lol.I don't think you need to jack up the vehicle even though the Haynes manual says to do it.You can use a ratchet and 18mm socket too.I used a closed end 18mm wrench on the driver's side.Take off the top nut(18mm) first.It is on a stud and there is only one nut on the top.Then the bottom nut and bolt.The 15mm(bottom) is on one side and the nut is 18mm.Remove the old shock.Get the new shock out but don't remove the plastic strip.Put the shock on at the top first and snug it up.Now get the shock down in the bracket or close to the bracket and then cut the strip.Guide it in.Now you have to play with the shock to line the hole up for the bolt.Don't let the shock out of the bracket or it will hard to get it back in there.Snug the nut up on the bottom.Then tighten top and bottom until they get fairly tight.I don't know the torque here.Maybe someone else does.I know the other nuts were not on real tight.I used the Monroe Sensatrac from Napa.There were about $39 plus tax each.
