Grand Wagoneer D44 Question
Ok, so tomorrow, I'm yanking the front D44 out of the Grand Wagoneer at my shop. My question is this. It has a 6 lug pattern. Can I convert to a 5x4.5, and if so, what is required? Thanks.

nope not 4.5 you can convert it to 5x5.5 if you want
just redrill the rears to 6 lug
Damnit, I'll have to get new wheels....uhhh, oh well.
I would personally convert the front to 5x5.5 and buy a set of $100 adapters from Spidertrax to convert the rear from 5x4.5 to 5x5.5.
All you need to convert the front is a set of Chevy small bearing spindles and caliper/hubs from a 80-84 Bronco. Check Rockauto.com for good prices on the rotors. |
DONT FORGET! waggys came with both sides on the front diff. Meaning, make sure you get the right one....the one with the pumpkin on the driver side. I think the quadtratrac ones have the chevy side diff.

it's a drivers droop

here's a picture of the greasy disgusting thing.

haha thats what mine looked like..2 bottles of purple power and a pressure washer looked brand new!
No, you need Chevy small bearing spindles.
figures...any recommendations on where to find them for a decent price?
I believe you can swap the Knuckles out off a ford 78/79 d44 or the knuckle out off a Chevy D44
knuckles from any SA D44 will work, its the chevy flattops that are wanted for highsteer as they are stronger then the ford flat tops.
Ricky, try www.completeoffroad.com. They've got good prices on alloy shafts, u-joints, lockers, and the spindles you're looking for. I've bought stuff from them on several occasions and was very pleased.

Yup, those are the ones.
