I'm not sure if there is way to adjust the Ranger box.....probably but. I had a worn out yota steering box I used for my SAS and adjusting it didn't do jack. Finally replaced it with a rebuilt one and it was much better.

I remember seeing rebuild kits.......but they were just seals and gaskets. I did one of those for my old 81 F250. But if it is getting loose (shake your steering wheel) I believe your only option would be to purchase a rebuilt unit. Gears and or bearings are going to be worn if its loose.
If you grab the pitman arm and shake it does it have any play at all? Its more common for the Hydraulics in them to just stop working.

actually it is called a gear box not a steering box if you go to an automotive store you will hear it called a gear box. and i do not believe they are adjustable you would be better to go and get a reman. unit and most of them now have a lifetime warranty on it so you wont have to buy another one again.

i know on the 70s ford trucks their is a nut and a stud with a slot on the top of it.. loosen the nut and turn the stud in a half a turn and it will clear a lot of the play out of the steering,, but i dont know about the ranger boxes might just have to rebuild it

it has a lash adjustment but you only want to adjust it a little at a time or you will loose steering returnability...maybe adjust it in 1/8 turn at a time...im sure you got more to worry about than a loose steering gear on that truck

+1

With a high miles box, it is often not possible to adjust the on-center slop away without making it bind severely while turning. That's because most of the wear occurs on or near the "straight ahead" position. It doesn't cost anything to give a try but a replacement box is probably the real solution.
