HELP! Pic request....steering rack hoses
 

Hi.

Turns out my little steering problem of leaking atf all over my crossmember ends up being a hole in one of the hoses. I found this out tonight my filling up the pump, and watching the dribbles, then all of a sudden atf was squirting all over me....I found my hole. The silver hose is where my leak is coming from. The one that makes the "loop" over to the passenger side of the rack. Anyway...is my silver hose (the one that goes over to the pass side), is it tweaked?? The reason I ask is that that hose is touching both the sway bar and another powersteering hose.

Has anyone had to replace any of their hoses?? Anybody know if that hose is replaceable?? I'd hate to have to get a new rack because of a hose.

That U-shaped tube is the power steering cooler and the tube and brackets are definitely bent. The longest tube run should be straight and the brackets should be holding the long tube in front of the rack. The brackets are bent up at about 90 degrees from where they should be.

Looks like it's new cooler and skid plate time.

Why does his have such a wimpy power steering cooler? Mine has a cross-flow radiator-style cooler.

Also, you should be able to find an easy replacement for that at any local salvage yard, Shane.

That's the cooler?? wow! My little brother's XL 2wd ranger has a neatto cross flow one too.

update:

hey guys. i'm having a hard time with ford right now. They can't even find the same part that I currently have on the truck. Today at work, havning them fax over the diagrams, etc....after work, I took a look at 4, yes 4, 4x4 4dr V6 trucks in the work parking lot....all of them have this little cross flow cooler. not one had this freakin loop design.

Can ya'll post pics of yours??

Could I possibly have a '00 style cooler?? Gosh, i'm confused. I might just have to convert to the finned cooler.
