Help!! Switching 2wd to 4x4

Hey guys I need some help, I have a 2006 Ranger I'm looking to switch it to 4x4, I've found another ranger which is a 97, will the axles and tranny fit on my 06 giving the year differences?? And will have to get manual locking hubs??

Welcome to the forum

4x4s have different frames than 2WD, so not a "bolt on" option

You can of course build anything but a 2WD to 4WD conversion will require re-enforcing front frame on 2WD and then very precise measuring and welding of brackets to mount front axle, it needs 4 wheel alignment or it will "crab" down the road, so precise measuring is required.

The cost, if you are not a welder and fabricator, will be more than the difference in just selling the 2006 2WD and buying a 2006 4WD

Both vehicles need to have 3.0l engines or both need to have 4.0l engines, not one or the other.
If both are 4.0l then transmission/transfer case will swap over, if one is 3.0l and the other 4.0l then it will not.
2.3l is not even close so not mentioned

1997 use auto hubs and yes you would want manual hubs if spending this amount of money on a conversion

1997 will have a TTB axle, which is not exactly desirable. Not to mention that it's not a bolt on affair at all.

If your 2006 is a Sport package with Torsion Bars, then it technically is possible to do an IFS 4x4 swap since all but one of the mounting brackets exist on the frame. If it's a coil spring truck, then it's not possible without major modifications. It's just easier to buy a 4x4 Ranger.
