How Long Do Bilstiens Last?

I got some Bilstiens about a month ago and was wondering how long I should expect them to last? This is with mostly street driving with little OFFROAD!!!!! lol

you can drive online? :biglaugh:

04blackedge 07-10-2008 10:59 AM

Be careful about driving online, I heard it beats your shocks up.

DAMMIT I was beat to it!

Roach2004 07-10-2008 11:13 AM

Damn I dont know where my mind is today!

rangerboy101 07-10-2008 11:15 AM

Usually check any shock at 50,000 mile intervals. Wheather its a bilstein, kyb, porcomp, ect...
All shocks are gonna loose dampening rates over time.

I've had mine for a few years now and they are still good. I'm in the same boat as you......lots of street driving, with the occasional off-road session.

I changed the stock Bilsteins at 40,000 on my FX4. They weren't REAL bad, but I drive some twisty roads and am somewhat sensitive to handling. I'd guess they have 10-20 k left on them for someone not so picky.

My05edge 07-16-2008 08:29 PM

my truck still has the stock bilsteins and they work just fine.

I've got 120K on my Bilsteins (all road driving) and I haven't seen any degradation in them. My 1981 Mercedes 300D (only 112K miles) still has the original Bilsteins from the factory and they are still fine.

I still have the original Bilstein shocks on my FX4 and they are basically the same at 86K miles as they were new. I do some off-road but mostly highway with a lot of towing. I think the stock Bilsteins are a little soft for off-road but are great for street. They are actually pretty good off-road in most conditions but are not firm enough on rock climbing type trails.

And yeah, i do agree.. every 50,000 or so take a second peek at them, pull em off, check them out... Should last a good long time, most rigs go 100,000 miles on a set of shocks.
