changing balljoints

i went in to get a new set of tires at goodyear and i guess the techs were bored so they did a suspension "inspection" on 4wd 2000 ranger supercab whatever, and told me my lower balljoints were worn/wearing. note the suspension so far is pretty stock, minus the new shocks i put on a couple of weeks ago. is this a replacement i could do myself? also, is this a good time to go with something much better than stock components?

How many miles are on the truck? Keep in mind the truck is 6 years old, stuff is getting older and wear and tear on them on my 98 the balljoint went bad at around 90k. You will need a press to press out the lower balljoints and the uppers to if you decide to change those as well if you dont have the ones that are casted into the arm. Its not a bad job not something i enjoyed doing..

it easy IMO, but there are different levels of easy to different folk.basically youre going to need a pickle fork, bigger sized sockets that i dont remember the specific size, a BJ press (or you can just take the arms to a place and have them done if you prefer) and a cushion of time so that you can take your time.

and get a manual for your truck if you have no idea what youre doing.

In the end youll probably spend close to how much it is to have it done, but youll have the know how and some of the supplies to do it next time...

its easy if you have the right tools and have the time.

if you are the type who takes your truck to get an oil change, you will probably just want to get it done.

i did my ball joints and inner and outer tie rods in a few hours (including a semi alignment in my garage) with minimal tools. then again, ive torn into it many times so it went pretty easily.

If you have to ask, it's probably alot easier to let them take care of it and be liable for, JIC something should happen.
