Im looking through 4WP for a new lift for my truck, and ive seen many Gen 3 rangers with the 5.5/6" lift on their truck, but im wondering about putting it on a 2wd. I know the front axle on the Gen 3 is simialr in suspension, as with the coil springs and stuff. But what does the lift for the 4wd have that wont work for the 2wd. I know most 2wd lift have relocation brackets, but i dont know about 4wd.

Would i be able to use most of the parts off a 4wd lift, or will it not have the parts i need up front in my 2wd?

 

the front lifts for 2wd are done with spindles, 4wd lifts use knuckles. thats just one difference and im sure theres more.

 

spindles are used to lift SLA trucks am i right? The 98+ rangers. Everything ive seen for a I-Beam (gen1-gen3) rangers are either lift coils, or drop bracket/relocation brackets.

 

3RD GEN TRUCKS DO NOT USE SPINDLES TO LIFT.....we have the ungodly lovely I-beam suspention. we just use drop brackets on the i-beams and radii's arms and longer springs

for one thing there is kits out there that are make for the 2wd only they exist. personally i would just get the 2wd kit and not the 4x4 kit, in thoery it should work but i wouldnt do it. i was pricing out a while ago i beleave rough contry lift and talked to them its a nice kit. and cheap too.

 

yea, from what ive found, there is a pro-comp lift 5.5"/3" kit that 4WP sells for about $775. then you have the superlift kit which is up there as well, unless you go for teh superior kit which is about another $400. My friend purchased the rough country lift, it was $450 i think, and he got maybe 3" at the most, and it is advertised as a 4" lift. I know fabtech, and skyjacker both make kits, but im just trying to find some alternatives to the big name companies, where in some cases yuor paying for just that, the big name.

so a good setup for the front would be longer i-beams, or drop brackets for the i-beams? And as far as radius arms, extended ones would be better than relocation brackets, right? also a drop pitman arm? i just wish you could be up a front end like you can the rear, most parts for a front end lift are only sold in whole kits.

 

Custom cut and turned I-beams are gonna run you a pretty penny compared to buying drop brackets to lift the front, and extended radius arms are gonna cost alot more than just drop brackets but if you can afford it it's hella beefier than using drop brackets

 

so to give me a quick 4 inch lift all the way around, can i buy some Daystar coil spacers, 2" lift coil springs, and add a AAL to the rear, with a 2" block?

Yes i know the whole new shocks and alignment thing to, but im just talking about actual lift. Is about 4" in the front as much as yo ucan go without testing the really functuality of the pitman arm? or should look into getting a drop arm?

 

You can't align your truck properly with more than 2 inches of lift up front without drop brackets, you'll need drop brackets if you go coil spacers and longer coils. I think you should get a drop pitman arm, some manufacters may say you might not need one, but my buddy absolutely needed one on his 92 with 4 inches of lift.

 

no dont do that you will need to buy the drop brackets for the i beam becuase your camber will be to far off to align with the coil and spacer then your radii's arm will be to far down and then the drop pitman arm.....buy its all sayed and done you could have bought the rough country for cheaper....

when i get home i will hunt around to find that lift i cant think of am at work right now. BTW you can get 4" out of a rough contry you just have to remeber if you front is saged to much that you wont. also you plan on all this on your little 4cyl have fun on the freeway with that thing. better off just selling it and buying a different truck...thats why i never went higher then i did just decided to start saving for a new truck.

 

yea, i have been thinkin the same thing. The only thing i really want to/have left to do is, a locker and 4.10s in the rear, and the coil spacers and new schocks front and rear. I was just exploring other options, because i still dont know if im keepin my truck very long after i pay it off. But i know for a fact that the locker & gears, and spacers, will be my last mods suspension/drivetrain till i pay it off.

Other than maybe a sct tuner, and intake and exhaust for performance, i dont want to do to much. SO im looking to put maybe 1k on it in the next two years i owe on it.

dude i have a lift from 87 through 97 by ruogh country and i have all the brackets and stuff but you need to buy the bolts for the front suspension and shocks and ill give it to you basically for a 100 bucks thats all the brackets pitman arm, blocks ubolts ect, you would need to buy 4 inch lift shocks and some hardware for the fornt.... lemme know...


and the 4wd will not work for your truck...

It is 83-97, the only thing changed suspension wise to the 2wd are the spindles, and that was in 89.

The front crossmember is different between 2wd and 4wd, making the axle drop brackets different.
