Installed 2" blocks - "bump" when taking off

Over the weekend I installed some 2" lift blocks on my '98 Ranger. I already have Chevy Shackles and Explorer leafs. I have the shackles on the lower setting. Since installing the blocks, I am getting a bump when taking off. If I roll off very slow, it is not felt until I accelerate hard. Seems to me that it might be the famous slip yoke problem? Is there anyway to find out for sure? How do I go about greasing the yoke?

Also, where can I get a set of new u-bolts?

Slip yoke bump, I don't know any ranger that doesn't do it.

Just grease the input shaft...

Check your u-joints and your pinion angle too. When my pinion angle is way off it will clunk really bad.

Here is a link to the How To that i used. I did this back in Nov. and it still hasn't came back.

Thanks for the link... pretty sure I just have a once piece drive shaft though, have to look tomorrow. Might be a different process.

The elusive slip-bump. My Ranger used to do that. I went to the dealership with warranty still active and they replaced the entire driveshaft and associated u-joints. For $100. Granted I probably could've taken it out, greased it and put it back in for less that $10 but oh well.

I have a bump if I "punch it" in reverse (not forward though). However when I go forward again (slow or fast), it bumps again and doesn't do it again unless I punch it in reverse again. If I go into reverse slowly, it doesn't do it. I have 4" blocks. Is this the same problem, or something else??

sounds like an axle wrap problem you need some of these

no bump here! lol.

Though it did do it when I had 2" blocks as well.

Hmm interesting. Thanks Downey. :)

FoMoCoFiddy 03-17-2009 11:08 AM

Yeah, that sounds like Axle wrap.

Downey 03-17-2009 11:10 AM

did you stack 2 inch bocks on top of each other? or what

Rainier 03-17-2009 10:29 PM

No, it's one block. Aluminum (I know, I ordered iron ones).
