Leaf Spring shackles rotted off and didnt know!!!

well took my ranger into the shop today to have my new tires mounted and not even 10mins after leaving the shop my mechanic called me back asking how the hell are you driving this thing??? low and behold he told me both of my rear leaf spring shackles were completly rotted out and broke..leaving my rear leafs hanging in the air..i couldnt feel while driving or didnt evn realise they were broke...i was told the ford rear shackles are known to rot out and need to be replaced..so sucks on my end..got a heavty bill..also gettin a new tie-rod end and new sway bar link..

- so anyone else ever have the problem of having to replace their shackles??

thats the first thing you always do when you get a ranger at least more than 5 years old. check the shackles. i replaced mine, simple fix if you have a jack.

And not just the shackles, but the hangers too. Those seem to rust out very fast on Rangers.

Had mine go on my '93, no big deal to change them. Get another set of solid ones from the wrecker and swap 'em in. Done. LR

I caught the ones on my 1989 model several years ago before they broke. They were really rotted. I just bent up some 1/4" steel to kind of fit them tightly and welded it on em. They're still solid as hell.
